Davy Crockett Days

Davy Crockett Days

The 42nd Annual Davy Crockett Days will be held Sunday, October 4 through Saturday, October 10, 2009. The Davy Crockett Cabin Museum will be open all week at no charge, but donations are always appreciated. This festival honors the memory of Colonel Davy Crockett, who lived here from 1822 until the fall of 1835. This was his home when he hunted and killed 105 bears, and served three terms in Congress. There will be historical displays in town all week with special sales at local businesses.

Plans for the week are to begin with a flag raising opening ceremony at the Davy Crockett Cabin Museum at 2 p.m., followed by a Historic Home & Church Tour from 3 to 5 p.m. beginning at the historic Rutherford First Baptist Church.

Monday night will be the first ever "Davy Crockett Days Idol" talent contest.

Tuesday night will be the White Beans/Ham Supper and BINGO at the Woodmen of the World Activity Center.

The Community Worship Service will be held at the Cabin Museum on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Thursday evening we will enjoy Rutherford Night Out, with free party jumpers and games for the kids, and free hotdogs for everyone in front of the fire department from 6 to 10 p.m.

Downtown Open House will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., along with the Street Dance, and the annual Fire Department Auction at 7 p.m.

Saturday at the Cabin will bring pioneer trades, crafts, and music with concessions at the cabin. The Pet Show will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on the school tennis court. Vendors will be set up downtown selling lots of food, crafts, and more. Station #9 Rescue Squad will be selling BBQ at the station until sold out.

The annual Car & Truck Show will be held on the school parking lot, in conjunction with Russom Motors. Parade line-up will be on the old Kellwood parking lot next to the cabin, with the Grand Parade beginning at 2 p.m. Guests can enjoy BBQ, hamburgers, and much more as they watch the Grand Parade and the Bluegrass Concert at the Davy Crockett Cabin following the parade.

To end the celebration on Saturday evening, we will enjoy a Christian concert at Jones Volunteer Park, with the annual fireworks show at 8:30 p.m.
