Synopsis

Uprising, a Korean period action film, will premiere globally on Netflix on October 11. Set during the Joseon Dynasty, it follows Jong-ryeo, a soldier, and his conflict with his former servant Cheon-young amid a rebellion.

Netflix’s original Korean film, Uprising, is set to release globally on October 11. Directed by Park Chan-wook, the movie features action-packed scenes set in Korea’s 16th century.

Plot

Uprising takes place during Korea's late 16th century, focusing on the Joseon Dynasty. The main character, Jong-ryeo, is the son of a powerful military family. He grows up with his servant Cheon-young. Both characters become enemies during Japan’s invasion of Korea.

As the Japanese army advances, King Seonjo flees north. The people of Joseon form a rebellion to resist the invasion. The king, however, later calls the rebels traitors. Jong-ryeo becomes a soldier supporting the king’s side.

The story reaches a climax when Jong-ryeo faces his former servant Cheon-young, who has joined the rebellion. Cheon-young becomes a skilled swordsman and poses a serious threat to his former master. The battle between them reflects the larger struggle in Korea as the country faces invasion and internal conflicts.
